Matt Ryan Retires from the NFL

Former Colts Quarterback Calls It a Career

Former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Matt Ryan has announced his retirement from the NFL after 15 seasons. Ryan made the announcement on social media, thanking his family, teammates, coaches, and fans for their support throughout his career.

Career Highlights

Ryan was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons with the third overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. He spent 10 seasons with the Falcons, leading the team to the Super Bowl in 2016. Ryan was named the NFL's Most Valuable Player in 2016 after throwing for 4,944 yards and 38 touchdowns.

In 2022, Ryan joined the Indianapolis Colts. He started 12 games for the Colts, completing 67 of his passes for 3,057 yards and 14 touchdowns. Ryan's retirement marks the end of a successful NFL career that saw him earn over $367 million in salary.

Legacy

Ryan is considered one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in NFL history. He ranks fourth all-time in passing yards (62,222) and ninth all-time in passing touchdowns (372). Ryan was also selected to four Pro Bowls and was named the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year in 2018.
